Genealogy Searching Service - Creating Family Trees

November 1st 2006 09:39
A friend recently finalized what she has been interested in doing the recent years. She has just created her family tree including five or perhaps even up to six generations. Quite a feat. I'm sure the tree will keep growing.

An interest in personal past is encouraging to do. With the advent of mobility, families are often physically separated across the miles. The Family Tree is a way of being a part of each other for always, especially with big families.

Thinking of the devotion and extra care that my friend took on while doing her own family tree, here is probably an opportunity to start a business creating these keepsakes, then offer it to people who might be interested.

A genealogical searching service can be done and presented to potential clients, especially families with a written family history and a family tree already on hand. Photographs, scrapbook or old home movies, and all other kinds of remembrances, souvenirs and mementos can also be presented on CD, DVD or on video.

To start compiling the family genealogy, a computer and a software will be needed to store the data. As the compiler and/or writer, you will have to meet family members of clients willing to participate and share any kind of information they can provide.

Other things that can be done is that in this business, you can also train or teach clients to put family data, home movies, events, etc on video, DVD or CD. As your business grows, a bit more investment on DVD CAM system, and other high tech gadgets come up on top the simple brochures and cards.

What a fabulous idea! I've wanted to do a family tree for some time but just haven't had the time or energy to get one started. How convenient would it be to hire someone to do it for me! *LOL* - On the flip side, for someone who enjoys this kind of research and writing, it would make a perfect small or home-based business.

Great idea, Tel!

Pleasure Wendi. A friend and a cousin are into it. They're having a ball with the outcome. So far, my cousin has found long lost relatives overseas, and one nearby who she thought is never a relative. Soem second and third generation relatives have been excitedly providing some input.

Go for it and let me know.

I think I may take the lazy approach and start a family tree from my generation forward. I'll account for myself, my sister, my brothers, my nieces and nephews, my father, my grandparents (both sides), and my kids. After that, someone else can take over! *LOL*

Nick, when we moved to Kentucky, profoundly stated in his infinite wisdom, "Mom, you are the one that all the future generations are going to look back on fondly. You are the one who will start traditions and preserve heirlooms that will continue on for hundreds of years to come."

Geesh! No pressure, right? *LMAO* But rolling with that thought, I'll start my family tree with me, the basics of how I came to be and who was influencial in my making and shaping, and then let my kids write the next chapters.

It would be interesting, though, to see if any famous people from times past popped up in my family tree.

Nick is right!
I'm very sure you'll find out a lot more once you start it. Your bros., Lorie.... everyone else will pitch in. Oh your mom, you should ask her a lot. She'll be a big help.

I think my mom actually started one once, but it became too much work and she dropped the ball. I think my grandma or aunt had similar experiences - not too sure. See - therer is a need for professionals who can do the research and assembly for us! *LOL*
